During
his tenure at Nortel Networks Edward – who holds first and second degrees in laser physics and microwave physics respectively
– was responsible for their European Wireless Networks intellectual property portfolio, working closely with North American
based colleagues to enable Nortel – a relatively small telecommunications company – to refuse to accept licence
proposals from larger telecommunications companies. The importance of quality
over quantity was quickly appreciated
Other
significant intellectual property achievements include:
ˇ
Acting
for one American Injector Valve Company, Edward has ensured that European Patents have been upheld during hearings at the
European Patent Office, on a number of occasions, despite opposition from a leading
German competitor;
ˇ
Acting on behalf of an international leader in utility metering, in hearings
before the European Patent Office in respect of a number of cases, ensuring the
grant of patents with a useful breadth of protection;
ˇ
Acting
as part of a due diligence team for several Siemens mergers and divestitures, where the importance of team work between professional
groups has been shown to be significant; and
- Acting for an Oxford based medical imaging client, where effective
pre-litigation analysis of alleged patent infringement enabled the client to
dismiss a proposal that they should pay seven digit royalty payments and dismiss threats of patent infringement made by a
top London Law Firm.
Edward
presently works from his self-designed and self-built green-oak office premises and has developed a network of value-based
intellectual property services with associates in the United Kingdom and many European Countries.
